Saugatuck and West Michigan warms up

The forecast for this week includes 50’s and even 60’s!  Definitely a very good sign that spring is here!  Our bed and breakfast guests will soon be enjoying the wrap around porch once again as the wicker porch furniture will be coming back out as well.  Having breakfast on the outside on the massive porch will soon be a reality for our Inn guests as well.  Always a good sign that summer will be here soon too.

Holland tulip fetival will have nothing on us!

Aside from our already impressive tulip and spring bulb beds and the bed and breakfast, we planted a fantastic assortment of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and more last fall so we are expecting to outshine even some areas of the Holland tulip festival this spring season.  Seeing some of them pop thier heads out of the ground this past few days has made us all excited to imagine what a great display of spring colors we will have around the Inn this year.

Lake Michigan sunsets later with daylight savings time here

Our beautiful Lake Michigan sunsets will now be almost 8pm beginning this evening!  It’s hard to believe, but from now until August, the sunsets over Lake Michigan will now be around 8 pm or later!  What a great time of year to see the sunset just before the later evening hours.  Our romantic getaway bed and breakfast guests often times love to witness the sun setting over Lake Michigan, which is why we have a chalk board on our wrap around porch with the sunset time for each day displayed as a reminder to plan your day accordingly to see our always unique sunsets while staying at the Inn with us.

Cooking class weekend getaway package today at Inn

The bed and breakfast is hosting a cooking class weekend getaway package today here at the Inn.  Always a fun time, we have two of our couples staying with us tonight that are participating in the bed and breakfast package.  We find that the best cooking classes are our smaller more intimate groups such as this.  It is a hands on cooking class so of course “too many cooks in the kitchen” can get to be a bit crowded.  So although not all of our weekend guests are participating in this always fun event, that seems to work out just fine for everyone.

Saugatuck harbor’s reflective Lake Michigan waters

Driving through the town of Saugatuck Michigan today, one can not but help to marvel at the sparkling waters of the harbor today.  After a few months of being in its frozen state, it is always so much more refreshing to see the sun shine making the waters of the harbor glisten as it flows into the Lake Michigan waters at the end of the channel.  This time of year especially, all of us Michigan folks find the awakening (and thawing) of the rivers and waterways a refreshing and welcome sign of what’s to come.

Nearby Grand Rapids Michigan attempts world record today

Today is the opening day of Grand Rapids’ “Laugh Fest” big name comedians slated to perform over the next two weeks.  But tonight’s opening event in Rosa Parks circle in downtown Grand Rapids is sure to be a real hoot.  It is the cities attempt to beat the Guinness World Record for the largest rubber chicken toss.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate as we hope to be in attendance with a good friend of ours who is “celebrating” his 40th birthday by being part of a Guinness record breaking event.

Lake Michigan is getting ready for another summer season

One of the true signs of what lies ahead of us in the coming months is the changes that Lake Michigan has gone through in the past month.  Every spring season Lake Michigan thaws and the snow and ice melts away as we look forward to another long early spring to late fall season of enjoyment for our bed and breakfast guests and ourselves.  We often forget just how lucky we are to be so close to such a fantastic large lake with all of its many benefits and peaceful tranquility that it provides.

Saugatuck Michigan’s dwindling snow means signs of spring are here

Driving around today it was evident that the snow piles are far and few between.  Even in some of the more shaded areas in Saugatuck and here at the bed and breakfast, there is very little snow left.  Still, it is that time of year when the forecasted “mixed precipitation”  can mean just about anything.  So although it’s exciting to see more and more of the signs of spring, it also means that we are in the “in-between” season when just about anything  can come down from the sky.

Grand Rapids Laugh fest begins this week

The nearby Michigan community of Grand Rapids has never had a shortage of creative minds and special projects to promote the city and all of West Michigan.  Laugh fest is the latest project that is a series of comedy events throughout the city including both big and not-so-big comedy names.  Betty White, Bill Cosby and others will be in the city for this event.  The best part of it all is that the coordinators have set it up to benefit cancer survivors and the Gilda Radner fund, making this special West Michigan event even more special.

European bed and breakfast guests love Michigan

Six of our weekend bed and breakfast guests were a very nice group of travelers from Germany and other parts of Europe.  They were very impressed by the accomodations of our Michigan bed and breakfast and very appreciative of the full hot buffet breakfast as well.  Having traveled in Europe, we are well aware that the original concept of bed and breakfast in other countries has always been more simple and similar to our American hostel, not at all like the romantic bed and breakfast that we keep here at our Michigan Inn.  So it was quite interesting to here and see their reactions this past weekend.
