Rhubarb coffee cake a hit for our Inn couples

One of the many unique made-from-scratch breakfast items that we serve is a rather unique coffee cake that incorporates rhubarb in the ingredients.  The rhubarb is actually a very tasty red rhubarb that we grow in our back yard and is harvested each May to August and frozen for use in the winter months.  The coffee cake is a breakfast favorite for many of our guests.  Although it sounds a bit odd, once our bed and breakfast guests have tasted this breakfast treat, they often times ask for the recipe.

South Haven sunny day getaway today

Today we ventured from the bed and breakfast down our local road and then south along the lake front to South Haven.  A mere 15 minutes south of us, South Haven is a very pleasant trip from the Inn.   But today especially the getaway from the bed and breakfast was very much appreciated as the sun was shining and the tree tops were glistening from the ice that still clung to their branches after our recent winter storms that went through over the weekend.  It was a very pretty day to be out and even more appreciated knowing that we were heading to one of our favorite spots along the Michigan shoreline in South Haven.

Bottomless cookie jar at bed and breakfast difficult to keep filled

One of the many perks that we offer the couples on getaways to our Michigan bed and breakfast is our now-famous bottomless cookie jar.  It always amazes me how many thousands and thousands of cookies we go through in any given month here at the Inn.  Diets seem to be put on the back burner while guests stay with us at the bed and breakfast.  We do enjoy making and providing the made-from-scratch cookies but sometimes keeping up with the demand for them is difficult to do.

Weather or not, another busy president’s weekend

This weekend’s president’s holiday weekend meant another buxy weekend here at the bed and breakfast, which occurs every year at this time.    For those who are lucky to have an extra day off this weekend, a getaway to a Saugatuck Michigan area bed and breakfast is a great way to beat the late winter blues.  The weekend’s weather held out for our getaway couples up until today.  With a wintery mix of snow, rain, wind and ice in the forecast, is seems to be a harsh reminder that although spring is in the air at times, we still have a few more weeks of winter left to endure.

New casino in West Michigan close to the bed and breakfast

Recently in West Michigan, a casino opened just east of the bed and breakfast 27 miles by the name of  Gun Lake Casino.   In addition to the New Buffalo Four Winds casino just an hour south of the bed and breakfast, the addition of another Southwest Michigan casino is great for our Inn guests who are looking for some alternative entertainment especially during the months of the year when indoor activities are preferred.  Gun Lake and Four Winds are both worth checking out while staying with us at the bed and breakfast.

Beautiful day for a drive along Lake shore today

Today we took advantage of the nice weather and drove from the bed and breakfast through the West Michigan countryside down to South Haven.  Along the way we drove down Blue Star Highway on the way down and back up the lake shore drive for a nice drive.  Seeing the lighthouse in South Haven and the waves of Lake Michigan crashing along the shoreline was a great treat especially since the last time we saw Lake Michigan it was still frozen.

Holland Michigan a great close by option

Our bed and breakfast guests are often times looking for something in particular for shopping or restaurants that are not always in the immediate vicinity of the bed and breakfast.  These times we tend to suggest Holland Michigan for our Inn guests as there is a lot of dining, entertainment, culture and shops in the Holland area.  As for ourselves, we often times visit Holland during the course of each week in running the bed and breakfast.  It has a lot of the stores and restaurants that we frequent ourselves and the best thing of all is the 15 minute drive from the Inn.

Change of seasons at the B&B Inn today

Every year at the bed and breakfast, I think of this time of year as the turning point when winter gives way to spring thoughts.  Part of the reason for this is that we spent part of our day today putting away the Valentine’s decorations and the winter theme decorations of snowmen, winter books and frosty branches.  While the simple act of putting these things into bins to be stored for another year does not actually bring the spring and summer season any faster, it does mean that it can’t be all that far away either.

Gourmet chocolates popular with bed and breakfast guests

This time of year when one thinks more of Valentine’s and romance month, we tend to have more requests for our gourmet chocolate tray.  Bed and Breakfast guests especially like the whirlpool suites, chocolates, massages and more of the pampering touches we offer when it is cold and couples look for getaways that feature comforts of home.  It certainly does keep our local gourmet chocolates shop and massage therapists all busy as well.

Saugatuck Michigan area roadways clear again

Living in the Saugatuck lakefront area of West Michigan in the winter, one forgets how nice it is to drive down the road with no sign of ice or snow pack to make the driving even questionable.  But today while running errands for the bed and breakfast in nearby Holland Michigan, it was very apparent that the roads are clear and dry after the recent pre-spring thaw that we have been experiencing here.  What a relief to drive without worry about hitting patches of snow and ice.   It’s almost like we just forget and take for granted the simple things in life such as clear and dry pavement.
