Bed and Breakfast host to guests from many states

I always amazes me to learn how many of our bed and breakfast guests have traveled far distances to come to our Michigan Inn.  Our location near Lake Michigan and close to all three resort beach towns of Saugatuck, South Haven and Holland put us in a very attractive location to visit for guests across the nation and from Canada and foreign countries as well.  This week’s bed and breakfast guests included folks from California, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio, Ontario and of course Michigan residents as well.

Saugatuck to South Haven area antiques

One of our bed and breakfast couples here on a midweek summer getaway just asked for ideas of fun things to do while the rain showers pass over us today.  They have decided to venture out to the many antique shops and malls of West Michigan, especially from the Saugatuck to South Haven area of Blue Star highway.  I directed them to quite a few in the area that are especially good, some of which are geared more for those wishing to “treasure hunt” and others where everything is neatly lined up in dealer’s booths.  Whether a novice antiquer or an experienced and skilled antiquer, both can be found here in West Michigan.

MI Blueberry U-picks now open

Michigan blueberry season is now upon us as is evident by the u-pick orchards now open between Saugatuck and South Haven as one drives down Blue Star highway.  Many of our bed and breakfast guests come to visit the bed and breakfast around this time of year with the main goal of their trip to pick their own Michigan blueberries.  With the abundant spring moisture and the recent heat of our early summer, it is sure to be a bumper crop for blueberry farmers once again this year.

Michigan Bed and Breakfast with massages a real treat

One of the many things our bed and breakfast guests love about staying with us is the perks and extras we offer.  In-house massages are offered here at the Inn by certified trained massage therapists and many of our guests take advantage of this either before or after visiting Saugatuck and the other nearby resort towns and many area attractions.  We also personally take advantage of having such great massage therapists working with us as we receive massages on a regular basis ourselves.  Innkeeping can be physically demanding at times, so we spoil ourselves with this extra perk quite often during the year.  Come stay with us and experience our wonderful massage therapists healing hands for yourselves.

Hot Air Balloon Package a Romantic Splurge enjoyed by guests

One of our “splurge” romantic getaway packages that has become popular in recent years for our bed and breakfast guests is the Hot Air Balloon ride package.  We work directly with a Michigan captain of a hot air balloon to offer this special getaway package.  Romance, Proposals, Anniversary, Birthday and others are the reasons our Inn guests choose to splurge on this package.  It also includes a specially-prepared picnic basket that we prepare here at the bed and breakfast.  Our guests can either enjoy the basket while watching the captain set up the hot air balloon or they can save the picnic basket for a seperate romantic spot for the two of them.

Saugatuck Holiday Weekend Getaway a sticky humid one

One thing is for sure, our July 4th weekend in the Saugatuck Michigan area has not disappointed for our bed and breakfast guests.  It has been beautiful and sunny for most of the holiday weekend.  But it certainly hasn’t been a cool (or dry) holiday getaway day today on the 4th.  With temperatures in the low 90s and a high humidity index, I’m sure many of our bed and breakfast guests will come back tired and drained from a full day of activities on Lake Michigan, in Saugatuck at the parade and on the sandy beaches.  I just hope they all plan a little cat nap back at the Inn here before heading out for the fantastic firework displays over the harbor.  Happy July 4th holiday everyone!

Bed and Breakfast wrap-around porch enjoyed by guests

Today is one of those perfect West Michigan days for our bed and breakfast guests to enjoy our large wrap-around porch.  Visiting with guests just now, they are so glad to come back to the peace and relaxation of the porch after a day of touring the busy Saugatuck area.  The wicker furnishes of the porch swing, love seat, rocker and tables for two and four are all in use at some point this afternoon.  Some bed and breakfast guests are playing checkers, another battleship, two others reading books and another group of friends just lounging with a glass of Fenn Valley wine and eating Crane’s apple pie (not sure about the taste combination but they say it’s good).

Holland Michigan Wild Wings restaurant now open

While running around today for groceries and bed and breakfast supplies in nearby Holland Michigan, it occurred to me that some of the usual Holland restaurants weren’t quite as crowded as usual for the Friday lunch crowd.  I’m sure the addition in Holland of Wild Wings restaurant in the former Ruby Tuesdays and the new Zoup restaurant have drawn some of the usual crowds away from the typically busy eateries.  Holland has an abundance of chain restaurants, but also a pretty good selection of unique restaurants in the downtown Holland Michigan area.

Saugatuck Music in the Park

Last evening I had dinner with a friend at Mermaid in downtown Saugatuck, on the harbor.  On the way to and from we strolled by the Wick’s Park gazebo where one of the Saugatuck music in the park series was playing.  The series is presented by the Saugatuck Area Business Association of which the bed and breakfast is an active member.  Although it would have been tempting to sit back and take in the music longer, the Inn duties called.  Still, it was very nice to hear the tranquil sounds of music in the Saugatuck downtown area on such a gorgeous summer evening.

July 4th fireworks scheduled for West Michigan

Every July 4th holiday weekend we post the fireworks displays happening around West Michigan for our bed and breakfast guests.  This year they are:  Allegan and Holland on July 3rd.  Saugatuck, Grand Haven, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph on July 4th and South Haven and Grandville on July 5th.  So for those of our Inn guests that are coming for a true patriotic getaway to West Michigan, there will be plenty of fireworks to be seen throughout the entire holiday weekend.  Judging from our forecasts, the weather certainly will cooperate as well so the displays should all be especially spectacular.
