Saugatuck Michigan’s daylight is getting longer

I realize it is only three weeks past the winter solstice now, but it is becoming obvious that the days are already getting longer as the sunset over Saugatuck and Lake Michigan is becoming later and later as we continue on into the winter season.  It certainly was a beautiful winter days in West Michigan as the sunshine was very prevalent and the winter weather (although cool) was not all that bad.  It would have been a great day to get out for cross country skiing, ice skating and more.

Bed and breakfast guests love our buffet breakfast

Occasionally, I like to brag about our great breakfast here at the Inn.  This morning’s guests at the bed and breakfast raved about our great filling buffet style breakfast.  For instance, this morning’s guests were treated to Chicken Enchilada quiche, pumpkin cobbler, spinach cheese souffle squares, cinnamon rolls, fresh mellon fruit salad and deviled eggs.  Yes, it is a filling breakfast, but also a great variety so that all of our Inn guests are sure to find something to please their palates every morning here at the Inn.

Wonderful winterland for Sleigh Rides and more

Finally what so many of our bed and breakfast guests who come for a romantic winter getaway has arrived.  A blanket of snow has progressively covered the West Michigan and Saugatuck area landscape with more to come yet tonight.   Winter wonderland is what our couples on a winter getaway hope for the most for their horse drawn sleigh ride.  But ice skating, cross country skiing and of course downhill skiing are all much more enjoyable too with a blanket of fresh new snow on the ground.

Our bed and breakfast is the featured Grand Rapids Groupon today

Today we are the featured Groupon of the day for the greater Grand Rapids area.  Specifically, it is for a romantic getaway at the bed and breakfast with a complimentary bottle of Fenn Valley wine or sparkling juice along with a gourmet box of truffles from Something Sweet in Allegan.  Already a hit, the groupon offer will continue to run throughout the day today as well as tomorrow.

West Michigan winter activities back in full swing

After what was a rather unseasonably warm holiday season, our bed and breakfast guests can now once again enjoy the usual Michigan winter sleigh rides, downhill skiing, ice skating and other winter sports.  A light coating of snow reminded us in the past few days just what time of year it is and the colder temperatures seem to be keeping it around as well.  Our forecast sounds as though we will all have a more substantial snowfall in the coming days, so all of our bed and breakfast guests who love the winter time in West Michigan can all breathe a sigh of relief.

Snow flurries in West Michigan

For the past 24 hours we have been witnessing snow flurries here in West Michigan.  For a blog post in early January, one would think that this statement is a given.  Not so for this year as we have had little snow in the past few weeks here by the Lake Michigan coast and at our bed and breakfast.  A very unusual winter so far for sure!  Especially when most of the country has had record snowfalls, rainfalls, storms, etc.  But then this is only January 2nd so who knows what mother nature has in store for us in the coming weeks of winter.

Happy New Year from our Michigan Bed and Breakfast Inn

Everyone here at our Michigan Bed and Breakfast  Inn wishes everyone out in Internet land a happy and healthy New Year.  It’s hard to believe that we are now in the year 2011!!  It seems like just yesterday that we entered the 2000 century mark.  Is it a sign of growing old(er) when we can’t believe that the years have been flying by?  Hmmmm.  Well anyway, we sure do wish everyone a healthy new year, whatever the year may be!

Saugatuck Fireworks tonight

Tonight in the Kalamazoo harbor in Saugatuck there will be the annual New Year’s midnight fireworks display.  It is a great annual tradition as a way of ushering in the New Year.  Just off of Lake Michigan, the harbor is host to three fireworks displays during the year.  Our bed and breakfast guests will most likely all be attending this event as it is a great way to celebrate the holiday with someone special.

New Year’s eve eve in Saugatuck

This time of year between the Christmas and New Year’s holidays we tend to book up quickly at the bed and breakfast as folks seem to have a need to fill the holiday week with something fun and a romantic Michigan getaway fits the bill.  While there is always lots to do in the surrounding Saugatuck area, the eve oc New Year’s eve seems to be a bit on the quiet side as everyone is anticipating the “big night” of New Year’s eve.  But then, the quiet and peaceful part of the holidays is what makes this time of year great as our bed and breakfast guests are forced to slow down and relax a bit.

Warm cozy feeling in our Michigan bed and breakfast this morning

With this morning being a foggy yet cold morning, it really is apparent to all of our bed and breakfast guests just how nice it is to have a warm and cozy atmosphere for this morning’s breakfast.  In spite of the somewhat gloomy weather outside, everyone inside is in good spirits and still filled with holiday cheer.  It’s always nice to see our Inn guests happy and relaxed on their getaway mini vacation and this morning is one of those that makes owning a bed and breakfast very enjoyable.
