Pond and waterfall at bed and breakfast

Another true sign that summer is right around the corner is when we clean the pond and rock waterfall in the gardens of the bed and breakfast.  Always a nice tranquil peaceful spot for guests in the summer season, the gurgling waterfall is a romantic spot for our guests to relax and take in the flowers and natural setting of our bed and breakfast.  The annual cleaning and re-operning of it are a great sign as it is just one more of the things we do each year to make our Inn a romantic and special place for our B&B couples.

holland veldheer tulip farms time of year

Every year our bed and breakfast guests love to travel to visit nearby Holland Michigan’s Veldheer tulip farm to see the vast varieties of tulips and spring flowers as well as the buffalo herd that they also have on their property.  Personally, we like to visit Veldheer to buy some of their bulbs as their bulbs (not just tulips) always produce very healthy blooms throughout the spring and summer seasons.  This is one spot that we always recommend to our bed and breakfast guests this time of year for sure.

Romantic sunset on Lake Michigan

One of our bed and breakfast guests that arrived today asked that their romantic couple getaway include the nicest possible Lake Michigan sunset imagineable.  Well, while we as Innkeepers will do just about everything we possibly can to make romantic getaways for our couples as memorable as possible, a colorful and scenic sunset isn’t always something we can promise.  But one thing we can promise is that every sunset over Lake Michigan is unique and very different and special in it’s own way.

Saugatuck and South Haven coming to life

Today I was in both Saugatuck (this morning) and South Haven (this afternoon) all in the same day.  Not an easy task to accomplish considering that the bed and breakfast was fairly busy all day as well.  But the one thing I did notice in both of the Lake Michian resorts towns is that there is definitely signs of life returning to both beachfront towns as the seasons change once again.  Always a welcome thing for those of us in the resort town businesses in Michigan.

Tulip time at the bed and breakfast

Well our own “tulip time” that is….  it was a long time coming, but we were finally able to plant our first potted flowers of the season as we always try to fill the urns next to our sign in front of the bed and breakfast with fresh flowers of the season.  Even though a lot of our tulips that are in ground are just beginning to show color, it was still an awfully nice feeling to be able to plant potted plants as it has been a long late fall to early spring season.

Sunshine peaking in and out in West Michigan today

Today is a day in West Michigan when you just want to grab your beach shoes and head out to Lake Michigan for a stroll, or maybe an antique mall instead where it’s dry.  No wait, the sun is back out and it’s warm and pleasant.  Nope, it looks like it could rain again, no wait a minute….  And so it goes…you have to love our spring weather when one day can fluctuate back and forth so often here in Michigan.  Well at least we are seeing some sunshine today, right?

Romantic day today with the royal wedding

As Innkeepers of a bed and breakfast that focuses our efforts on romantic getaways for couples on getaways to West Michigan, we of course just love the whole pomp and circumstance of the royal wedding in London today.  What a great uplifting news event to have today in the midst of what is too many times negative and depressing news coverage.  It is so nice to have beauty, romance and uplifting news when turning on the TV earlier this morning and throughout the day today.

Holland Tulip time groupies begin to arrive

This week at the bed and breakfast was the first time that Inn guests have been coming to get an early glimpse of the tulip time festival grounds and related tulip farms, windmill Island and other Holland area dutch attractions.  It really is strange how much our weather can vary from year to year with just last year having had an early Spring season where the tulips were almost done blooming by the end of April and this year it appears that many of the tulips in Holland and the surrounding Saugatuck area will likely be late blooming this year.

Our Romantic Bed and Breakfast compared to Europe B&B Inns

One of our bed and breakfast couples here on a romantic getaway who checked in just yesterday were in awe at the details and beauty of our magnificent Inn.  They explained that they has just been to Europe and having stayed at bed and breakfasts throughout Europe, were comparing what they had experienced at those Inns versus our bed and breakfast.  I know very well what they mean as I myself have stayed at bed and breakfasts in Europe and know that the romantic getaway of the Inns just isn’t quite the same there, even though bed and breakfast was originally started in the European countries years ago.

West Michigan rain at the Inn will eventually mean fast growing season

No doubt that all of the rain predicted in our forecast for the coming week will likely mean that once plants, flowers, trees and lawns all finally do get a chance to grow, they will likely take off.  So far, things have been a bit on the slow side for the normal progression of spring, but will all of this precipitation we are receiving we are sure to see a really surprisingly fast growing season to follow.  Which of course is a good thing as the soil certainly will not be dry as it has in some past spring seasons.
