Bed and Breakfast birds ready to fly away

Over the past weeks our bed and breakfast guests have enjoying watching as a robin first built her nest right in one of our hanging baskets on the wrap around porch, then lay her eggs and hatch them and finally watching as she brought nourishment to her young chicks.  Lately it has been interesting to see the chicks one by one leaving the “nest” of the hanging basket.  Actually, it’s more like they have been pushed out as there just isnt enough room for them all in the basket along with the flowers!

Sprinklers not need at bed and breakfast Inn today

It’s refreshing that out temporary hot spell is over and that we are back to more normal early June weather with milder temperatures and slow steady rains on an off throughout the day today.  Some summers once we turn our sprinkler system on it has to stay on quite a bit in order to supply the landscaping and yard with needed moisture.  But days like today it is always nice to shut the sprinklers off and let mother nature do her natural nourishment with a slow rain.

Saugatuck Waterfront Film Festival

Today is the kickoff of the Saugatuck Waterfront Film Festival, which is one of the largest film festivals of its kind in the country.  Always a big draw to Saugatuck, it is one of Michigan Lakefront’s pride and joy as filmakers of otherwise not so well know films are moved to the spotlight.   This big Saugatuck event has brought about the introduction to many people some very famous films, filmakers and actors.

Special Saugatuck area packages for summer guests

A number of the phone calls we receive from bed and breakfast guests these days are concerning our great summer specials and romantic getaway packages.  Today for instance, most of the phone calls from folks are concering our romantic packages including the hot air balloon ride package, sun, sail, sand and surf package, anniversary packages, etc.  Of course, there are also the special discount packages that guests call about as well.

Fenn Valley winery and vineyards

One of our most treasured neighbors is that of Fenn Valley winery and vineyards.  Always a favorite stop for many of our bed and breakfast guests, this Michigan winery has won numerous awards over the years for its outstanding wines and sparkling juices.  They also do a great job at sponsoring events and providing excellent vineyards and cellar tours to the many tourists to this area of Southwest Michigan.  We are proud to have them as our neighbors.

Gardens enjoyed by bed and breakfast couples

The gardens of the bed and breakfast have certainly come to life in the past few weeks and the bed and breakfast guests sure do enjoy them too.  Just today quite a few of our guests toured the gardens after breakfast on the wrap around porch and many of them wanted to know specific flower names and varieties.    This isn’t always easy for us to remember, but we sure do try.

Holland Michigan shopping trip today

With rising gas prices, I try to do my part by consolidating my shopping trips for the bed and breakfast these days.  Like today, when I ventured to nearby Holland Michigan, which actually is only 15 minutes from the Inn, but short hops do add up over time.  However, it seems as though Saturday is not a great day to try to get a lot of errands ran in busy Holland.  Try as I may, I still didn’t get everything done, but sure did give it a fighting chance.

Another happy wedded couple at the bed and breakfast

Earlier today another romantic couple took advantage of our wedding package here at the bed and breakfast.  Seeing the two of them all giddy and running around Saugatuck, South Haven and the lakefront puts on a smile on our face as it is always so nice to know that we are part of such a romantic memorable occasion for so many of the couples that come here to west Michigan.  Aside from the popular wedding package, we also see a lot of couples who come to our bed and breakfast for anniversaries, birthday celebrations and other special occasions.

Rhubarb season in West Michigan

Recently we discovered that our rhubarb crop at the bed and breakfast has just taken off like crazy!  It seemed as though the slow wet and cool start to our spring season was delaying the growing season in the Saugatuck Michigan area.  But recently crops like rhubarb have just been incredibly abundant.  Which I believe is probably a pretty good indication that crops of the other Michigan fruits and vegetables for this year should prove to be bumper crops as well.

Romantic getaway couples loving our wrap-around porch today

All day long today at the bed and breakfast,  many of our couple here on romantic getaways have been in the love seat, having lemonade and brownies while swinging away on the front porch swing, having wine and cheese on the side tables while seating in the cushy wicker chairs, playing backgamon on the small tables on the porch and just in general having a great old time on a perfect early summer day.  Well actually, it isn’t officially summer yet, but judging by the romantic couples enjoying the porch, you would never know it.
