Innkeeper’s diets?? Difficult to say the least

Operating a bed and breakfast Inn has many advantages such as no commuting time from wake-up to start of the work day, sharing laughs and friendships with romantic couples and much more.  But trying to diet while operating a bed and breakfast has to be one of the most difficult things to do.  We are starting our diets for this year (again) tomorrow morning and what a difficult thing that can be.  It takes great will power to still have cookies, brownies, breakfast treats and more all around you and making these yummy treats every day, but NOT eating them.  Wish us luck!  (fingers crossed)

Saugatuck restaurant re-opens under a new name

Coming soon to Saugatuck area is the new restaurant “Zing” which is taking over the old Blue Moon location, which is actually in Saugatuck’s sister city, Douglas Michigan.  Located on Blue Star Highway, it has always been a great building that has sat empty way too long and we are delighted to hear of this new restaurant opening here.  Scheduled to open in May, it will initially be opened for breakfast and lunch, with plans to open for dinner fare sometime soon.

Michigan’s tree industry

The past few days, our local power company has been around the bed and breakfast, in the Inn’s backyard, and occupying parts of the bed and breakfast parking lot in order to trim and remove tree branches (and in some cases the entire tree) that have grown over the years on to the area power lines.  All the buzzing, chopping, grinding and hauling of the past weeks here have been a reminder of the large tree and wood production industry of the state of Michigan.  We often times take for granted all the vast resources of our state, such as the tree industry.

In-house massages always a great addition

As Innkeepers of a busy bed and breakfast, we spoil ourselves periodically by having one of our massage therapists give us a theraputic massage in-house here.  We always look forward to this as it is like we are on a mini getaway escape whenever we can fit this into our busy schedule.  Couples on romantic getaways here at the Inn tend to take advantage of this spa service the most, but it is always available to anyone wanting to pamper themselves while staying with us at the bed and breakfast.

Getting bed and breakfast porch furniture ready (prematurely?)

Just today as I headed from the bed and breakfast to Holland Michigan for a few items we needed at this town’s nearby stores, I heard the forecast of the somewhat cool forecasted beginning of our spring season here.  But none the less, I figured it would be a good idea to get ready since we brought our wicker furniture and porch swing out to the front porch.  So we now have nice big new tufted cushions in the large wicker chairs on our front porch.  It may not seem like mother nature wants to cooperate just yet, but better to get ready early than later, right?

Bed and Breakfast porch furniture comes out for another season

Yesterday at the bed and breakfast we brought the wicker porch furniture out to the wrap around porch, the always-popular porch swing is hung for guests (a popular spot for couples here on a romantic getaway) and the lawn statuary is back in place once again.  It is always a good feeling at the bed and breakfast to have all of these seasonal items return once again as we Michigan folks celebrate the season of  Spring, Summer and Fall after a long winter season.

Sun shining down on West Michigan

Today is a nice sunny day in West Michigan….one of those that makes you want to get out and enjoy!  As much as we know we should be doing more projects around the bed and breakfast today, like our Inn guests we really would much rather be out enjoying the day.  So I think we will compromise and go our to enjoy the sunshine by driving down Blue Star Highway towards South Haven and head back along the shoreline of Lake Michigan.  If we make a quick trip out, we can still have time for some of our chores….hmmm, our even a nap!?!

Drive from Saugatuck to Holland a pleasant one today

Almost every day as an Innkeeper of a bed and breakfast, one must venture out to run errands for any number of items.  We generally drive from the Saugatuck area to Holland Michigan to get most of our shopping and errands done during the week.  It occurred to me on my run today that it sure is pleasant to be able to drive down the roadways of West Michigan again without having to worry about snow, ice, sleet etc.  It really does make the drive from Saugatuck to Holland much more pleasant on a day like today.

B&B Inn recently featured in Living Social

This past week our Saugatuck area bed and breakfast was one of the weekly getaway escapes featured in Living Social, the nationwide weekly offers of Living Social offers.  Many of these “copy cat” daily special offer email distribution sources have popped up in recent years, but there still is only one that leads the way in weekly nationwide (and beyond) getaway escapes and that one being the Living Social escapes platform.  We were honored to be included this past week and it definitely brought a great deal of exposure that kept was very  busy in phone and email coverage to say the least.

Spring showers in Saugatuck area bring Spring flowers

It’s actually nice to have showers in the forecast now for the next 10 days here in the Saugatuck area of West Michigan, because it is better than the alternative colder variety of precipitation.  Plus it also means that our thousands of spring  bulbs waiting under ground are going to be getting a good “drink” of water in the coming days as we get closer to the calendar spring coming up this next week.
