Saugatuck theater to host fun musical event

An upcoming fun spring musical not to be missed is the Saugatuck Red Barn theater production of Always….Patsy Cline.  It is being held the weekends of April 16-18 and 23-25.    Lakeshore Arts Alliance is responsible for the production featuring the always popular Delilah DeWylde and the Lost Boys.  Just one more reason to come visit us for a spring weekend getaway at our Southwest Michigan Bed and Breakfast.  If you are a Patsy Cline fan, this show is not to be missed.  Ask us for details when you call to book your Saugatuck spring vacation.

Beds in our romantic suites offer restful getaways

Aside from being providers of restful Saugatuck area getaways for our guests, we also enjoy travelling to bed and breakfasts, Inns, hotels, cottages and more.  While on these getaway trips, we have had a variety of experiences especially when it comes to the beds and bedding provided by various vacation lodging providers.   A good bed can make a huge difference in your vacation experience and we know this all too well.  That is why we pride ourselves on constantly upgrading matresses, sheets, pillows and bedding.  Our guests recognize this as well as we receive many compliments on how well our guests have slept while staying with us at our bed and breakfast.

Updated bed and breakfast awards section

Our most recent website updates were for the Michigan and national bed and breakfast awards and additional press coverage that our Inn has received over the past year.  This blog is also a new feature that will help us to update guests about the events, specials, background, area attractions in Saugatuck, South Haven, Holland and all of West Michigan. As anyone who frequents our website has noticed, we are constantly updating various sections of our bed and breakfast website in order to keep it as current as possible.  In addition, we also added a link to the main page and on the blog pages which allows a user to join our mailing list to receive our packages and specials emails.

April showers in Saugatuck Michigan bring…

After what has been a relatively dry spring season, we are very happy to see rain showers today at our bed and breakfast and the surrounding Saugatuck, South Haven and Holland areas.  It was desperately needed as our flowers, trees and lawns are all trying their best to get a start for the season.  Although our Inn’s current guests would rather have a sunshine day that lasts all day long, we have to admit that this morning’s rain was very much appreciated.  Especially since we planted more tulips, hyacinths, pansies and other spring flowers around the property of the bed and breakfast.  So as the saying goes, April showers will definitely bring (more) May flowers…

Free Massages with a stay in a suite or junior suite

One of our most popular specials over the past two years has been the free massages that we offer with a two-night stay in our bed and breakfast’s suites or junior suites.  The massages are a value of $150 and are two one-hour full-body in-house massages.  It is a great extra special perk that we offer to guests of our Inn that has taken off like wildfire and is valid November 1st to April 29th of this year.  So book soon to take advantage of this offer before the late spring/early summer season arrives.

Features of the Northern Spy Luxurious Whirlpool Suite

Our most popular suite is our Northern Spy Suite and with good reason.  It is a fantastic romantic escape which comprises all of the top floor of the Inn.  The turret of the Inn itself is the sitting room of the suite with a 20-foot high ceiling.  The arched ceilings of the suite itself create a chapel like feel and the bath features a large two-person whirlpool tub.  Whether celebrating an anniversary, honeymoon, romantic getaway or other celebration, this suite is the ideal retreat offering guests lots of privacy and romantic touches.

Allegan County Michigan Antique Fair

Everyone who enjoys going through antique stores or malls should check out and antique fair and Allegan County Michigan’s antique fair is one of the best.  It is held the last Sunday of the month from April through September and is just 20 minutes from our bed and breakfast.  There are over 400 dealers both inside and outside at the Allegan County fairgrounds and lots and lots of deals can be found.  Many of the antiques currently in the Kingsley House bed and breakfast rooms and suites are from the antique fair (and yes, some were a “steal” of a deal too!)

Birds are having a great vacation at our Inn too!

It’s always great to look out the window in the morning and see a flurry of birds enjoying themselves in our bird baths, hanging out on the bird feeders or singing their lungs out.  Today was definitely one of those days when the birds all seemed to be so very happy that our warmer weather has returned and that another Michigan Spring is in full swing.  It would appear as though another beautiful winter season has come to an end as the birds are all happily singing today.  It’s obvious that it is going to be another beautiful spring, summer and fall season here in West Michigan.

Lakeview Lanes a great casual Saugatuck and Douglas dining option

Earlier this evening I joined some friends for a casual “lighter fare” dining experience at Lakeview Lanes in Douglas, just south of Saugatuck.  The owners are great guys who refurbished an old bowling alley into a nice modern bowling alley but with a very nice atmosphere, which includes and enclosed screen porch as well as an outdoor sun deck.  The food is casual fare, but better than what one would expect of a typical bowling alley.  A popular place with locals and usually no wait for a table either.

Banana chocolate chips loaves or muffins

An easy and delicious variation on banana nut loaves is to use semisweet chocolate chips instead of the nuts.  It’s an easy substitution with a couple of slight modifications.  Use the same of amount of chocolate chips (I prefer semisweet as a tasty contrast to the sweetness of the banana loaf) in the same amount as the nuts required in the recipe.  Try to use the mini chips if possible as they do not fall to the bottom of the batter as easily.  Also, pour about an inch of the batter in the pan or tins before adding chips to the remaining batter and then spooning the remainder on top.  This will prevent the chips from going to the bottom of your pan, where they will scorch.  Try it sometime, our guests love them this way!
