Saugatuck and Douglas Spring Preview this weekend

This is a great time to be in West Michigan as Saugatuck and Douglas are having their “Spring Preview” when many of the seasonal shops re-open and bed and breakfast guests can also register to win a $250 shopping spree.  In addition, this is the big opening weekend of the Holland Michigan Tulip Time Festival.  Holland is just 15 minutes from the Inn and there is lots to see and do in this quaint-but-bustling little Michigan town.  The festival lasts for another week yet until Mother’s Day weekend, so book your stay at the Kingsley House Bed and Breakfast soon to take advantage of the many surrounding activities.

Michigan Blueberries a great treat year-round

I was just reminded of a trick I often times share with the bed and breakfast guests.  During the peak of blueberry season, come to the Saugatuck area to pick your own fresh Michigan blueberries and freeze them for a great winter time treat or for recipes year-round.  We buy produce from our local Michigan farmers whenever we can, such as the blueberries we buy each year.  Just spread them thinly on a cookie sheet (don’t rinse them) and let them freeze until they are like marbles.  Then bag them (we use our freshlock machine to vacuum pack them) without letting them thaw and return them to the freezer until you want to enjoy the great taste of Michigan blueberries any time of the year.  Just because blueberry season only lasts about two months of the year, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy these Michigan blues that are packed with anti-oxidants year-round.

Bed and Breakfast grounds get annual facelift

When you live in the Saugatuck Michigan area, one of the most anticipated days of the year is having new fresh mulch spread around your landscaping.  The spreading of the mulch is always a true sign that preparations for our many guest’s summer time getaway to our Michigan bed and breakfast is substantially complete. That day at the bed and breakfast just happened to occur on today’s date this year.  The Inn’s grounds are beautiful to say the least with all of our tulips now opening and the Iris varieties all showing their colors as well.  We are very excited to welcome our bed and breakfast guests for the upcoming season and are very proud of the Inn’s landscaping and know our guests will appreciate it too.

South Haven Michigan errands reveal buds galore

Today we decided to head to nearby South Haven Michigan to do some shopping for the bed and breakfast. Winding along Lake Michigan’s shoreline and Blue Star Highway, it is quite apparent that Michigan’s spring season has really arrived in all it’s glory.  The fruit trees and Michigan’s blueberry fields are all blooming and everyone’s tulips are in full bloom already.  West Michigan’s bloom season seems to have arrived about two weeks early this year (according to meteorologists in the area) so we are definitely looking forward to a long spring, summer and fall season this year.

Michigan’s Allegan Antique Fair begins today

Every year, the Allegan Antique Fair draws thousand of people from Saugatuck area, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo areas as well as folks from Chicago, Detroit and further out.  It is held the last Sunday of the month every month from April to September at the Allegan County, Michigan fairgrounds.  Guests of the bed and breakfast love to hear about this great tip and our Inn features some of the antiques as well.  There are  over 500 dealers from Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and beyond.  Rain or shine, the fair is a great way to spend the day for folks looking to simply browse to the serious antique dealer alike.  We like to go to as many of the antique fairs as possible during the summer season as there is always one or two antique pieces we find for the Inn.

Holland Michigan’s Piper restaurant a great dining option

Our bed and breakfast guests are pleasantly surprised by the fine dining option of Piper restaurant in nearby Holland Michigan.  Just 15-20 minutes from the Inn, this restaurant features a fantastic view on Lake Macatawa with sunsets of Lake Michigan in the backround.  There truly is not a bad seat in the house!  Our bed and breakfast guests always come back from the Piper raving about the great food and artful presentation of it is fantastic as well.  On the south shore of Lake Macatawa and close to the “Big Red” lighthouse, it is definitely one of the best in the Holland Michigan area and a very short drive for the Inn that is well worth the effort.

Luxury suites at our bed and breakfast generally first to book

Most often when romantic couples are looking for a Michigan romantic getaway escape, they inquire first about our luxurious whirlpool suites.  The suites feature not only the whirlpool tub and the fireplace, but are also more private and secluded than our typical standard size bed and breakfast room.  So the next time you are thinking about taking a Saugatuck Michigan getaway trip, remember to book in advance as the suites generally go first before the standard rooms.  So if you know you will be coming for an anniversary, proposal or just a romantic escape, try to plan ahead to assure that you are able to book one of our romantic suites.

Lakefront and Saugatuck featuring earth day celebrations today

Today on earth day Saugatuck and the Lakefront communities are celebrating earth day with festive events and plantings of trees and more.  We’re doing our part at the bed and breakfast by planting trees, shrubs, flowering bushes and more landscaping to make the Inn more beautiful than ever for our summertime bed and breakfast guests.  A native Michigan redbud tree, a gorgeous fern pine, a varigated holly bush and a fiery yellow spiera, and a very pretty azalea  are just a few of the vegetations that we are planting today.  We also found a great ceramic pot fountain that will complement the newly landscaped area quite nicely.

Saugatuck, Holland, South Haven brochures all available at Inn

West Michigan has a lot of fun attractions and exciting events and we encourage our bed and breakfast guests to explore all that Saugatuck, Holland and South Haven have to offer.  One of the ways we do this is to constantly actively look for more brochures and guides of Southwest Michigan happenings.  Centrally located, the bed and breakfast is almost exactly in the center of the three harbor towns and just minutes from Lake Michigan, wineries, orchards and so much more.  So we proudly display all of the events and attractions of the area so that our guests don’t miss out on any of the many things to do and see while staying with us at the Inn.  It really does warrant an extra day or two if guests want to take it all in.  Or just return for a future visit to see all West Michigan has to offer in every season.

Bed and breakfast guests enjoy our Birdbath as much as we do

Many visitors to Southern Michigan come to enjoy the many varieties of birds in our area.  We place birdbaths and birdfeeders around the property of the bed and breakfast to attract our feathered friends to the Inn property…not only for our guests to enjoy, but for the Innkeeper’s enjoyment as well.  Michigan is host to a variety of wild birds and they do provide a great deal of entertainment, especially when you take the time to watch them in the oversized birth bath in front of the bed and breakfast’s kitchen window.  But it is always rewarding to see how much our guests enjoy our feathered friends as well as we often see guests talking to them from the porch swing of the wrap-around porch and taking pictures of some of the most unique varieties that visit the bed and breakfast throughout the year.
