Bed and breakfast guests remind us of numerous area activities

In this past week at the bed and breakfast we have had a number of guests who were extremely active and doing as many summer season Lakefront activities as possible.  One of our couples who were on a romantic getaway went on the Lake Michigan boat cruise, went horseback riding, rode jet skis and went on the Dunes ride…all in ONE DAY!  Another couple on their romantic honeymoon getaway brought their kayaks and bicycles with them this weekend and yet another couple were on their motorcycles.  It just proves how many different ways one can enjoy themselves here while visiting the West Michigan lake front area.

Lake Michigan Sunset getting earlier and earlier

As we often do, a group of fellow bed and breakfast and lodging members congregate for an early Saturday dinner each week.  Today it occurred to me that it was actually getting dark as we were dining.  Yikes!  It is definitely true that the gorgeous sunset over Lake Michigan is getting later and later as we near the fall season.  It was beautiful driving back to the Inn as the orange sky and the glow of the sun was very obvious today.  Almost as if to say, “Ahhhh, another gorgeous summer day in West Michigan.”

Luxury suites have plush terry cloth robes

One of the many pampering spa touches we provide our bed and breakfast guests is the plush terry cloth robes in all of our whirlpool suites for our Inn guests to enjoy.  Although available year round, B&B guests especially appreciate them in the Michigan winter months when stepping out of a bubbling whirlpool tub and into a plush robe is especially comforting and warm.  Many of our bed and breakfast guests like them so much that they also have purchased them out of our gift shop here at the Inn.

Bed and breakfast website “I Love Inns” review posted

Another great review was just posted to the "I Love Inns" American Historic Inns bed and breakfast website. Here it is:

Beautiful house, unique rooms, meticulous attention to detail in decorating, amazing porch (enjoy the swing and lemonade and cookies), outstanding breakfasts...great
Michigan area activities... Saugatuck, wineries, Meijer Gardens, concerts on the lake... Definitely worth a trip. This is the best B&B we have ever stayed at.

Saugatuck’s Mason Street Warehouse last summer show

This evening we are going to the last of the summer series at Mason Street Warehouse/Saugatuck Center for the Arts.  It is a great broadway troupe company that presents a marvelous showcase of entertainment each year in downtown Saugatuck.  Many of our bed and breakfast guests have also taken advantage of going to these shows this year while visiting the West Coast of Michigan and our bed and breakfast.  Tonight’s performance is “The Nuclear Family” and sounds like a really good time.

Fall is in the air??

Strolling around Holland Michigan today shortly after lunch, I’m beginning to realize why so many of our calls by couples looking for romantic getaways are focused on the fall season.  The cooler temperatures appear to be making many of our Inn guests think about the fall getaways and booking their reservations now for an autumn getaway.  We even changed the website slide show earlier today from the summer season to the fall slide show.  Thankfully, Fall has always been my favorite time of year so I am happy to know that this season is just around the corner.

Michigan schools starting late

Today while shopping in nearby Holland Michigan and venturing on our way from the bed and breakfast by East Saugatuck up to Holland it was evident that the schools have not yet started here in Michigan.  One of our local Michigan elementary schools that we drive by frequently is still under a major remodeling phase that quite obviously will not be completed for awhile yet.  Also, the number of school age children with their parents in the stores is very apparent.  As we shopped today, I have to admit that I was thankful thinking that the school kids would be starting back soon after labor day (our new law in the state of Michigan).

Michigan Bed and Breakfast reviewed on website

A review of our bed and breakfast was just posted last night by one our recent couples  who came for a weekend getaway and to visit Saugatuck and the West Michigan area.  The following is their review:  “My wife and I drove up from Indiana for a one night stay and enjoyed ourselves so much we are planning our next visit.  Thanks so much!”

Romantic spa basket a nice getaway add-on

One of the many romantic getaway enhancements that we offer our romantic couples is a spa basket.  Whether staying in one of our luxurious whirlpool suites or in one of our beautifully appointed Inn chambers, the spa basket is a nice way to add on a romantic touch without breaking the bank.  The basket includes gourmet chocolates, romantic interlude music, a complimentary bottle of sparkling juice or wine, a fragrant soy candle to set the mood, massage lotion and a heart shaped rose sented soap.

West Michigan heat returns

Just when we thought the summer cool down was starting here in West Michigan, the thermometer mercury has started to rise once again.  It occurred to me today though as I checked in our bed and breakfast guests for today that many of them ventured to the Saugatuck and West Michigan area from much hotter locations and really believe our mid-80 temps to be quite cool and refreshing.  I guess we Michigan folks are just spoiled with cooler temps than most during our mild summer season.  This year has certainly been an exception to the rule for much of the country when it comes to summer heat and humidity.
