West Michigan July 4th forecast looking “gorgeous”

Our bed and breakfast guests coming to the Saugatuck, South Haven and Holland areas of West Michigan this coming July 4th holiday weekend will find themselves in a fantastic weather pattern for their holiday getaway.  The next couple of days are forecasted in the low 70’s but after that it’s back to the 80’s with sunny skies and little chance of rain in the forecast.  Excellent weather for boating, sunning on Lake Michigan beaches, fireworks displays and much more.  If this holiday weather forecast is any indication, we are in for a fantastic summer season in West Michigan.

Saugatuck Summer theater opening show

This past weekend was the opening of the Mason Street Warehouse summer theater in downtown Saugatuck.  A Broadway-meets-Michigan troupe, Mason Street has been doing a tremendous job bringing live theater and musicals to West Michigan and Saugatuck for years now.  One of our bed and breakfast couples attended last night’s event which was “Dirty Rotten Scoundrals.”  Jeff was also able to attend and liked the production.  Although I certainly would have liked to attend, Innkeeping duties of the bed and breakfast are always first priority, but I’m sure there will be other times in the near future when I will be at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts to see more of the upcoming summer shows.

Michigan antique fair hopefully not another rainy one

The vendors of the Allegan Michigan antique fair must think “what on earth did we ever do to the Gods to deserve this?  For those of our bed and breakfast guests staying three nights this weekend, the antique fair is a great alternative after spending yesterday on Lake Michigan beaches and the Saugatuck area.  But for some reason, there always seems to be a rain factor that plays into the day, which is how this morning began here in West Michigan.  Things are looking hopeful though for the rest of the day, with just a chance of rain later on.  So hopefully our Inn guests will be able to enjoy the fair mid day.

Star of Saugatuck boat tour – recent re-visit

Recently a group of friends from my Chicago years came to the Saugatuck area and visited me at the bed and breakfast.  They were able to stay a couple of days at the Inn which meant we also were able to tour Saugatuck, Lake Michigan and the local winery.  The Star of Saugatuck was one of our adventures for the day and was a good chance to experience the tour first hand again.  I believe one of the things that makes a good Innkeeper of a bed and breakfast is one who experiences attractions and restaurants first hand, so that we can send our guests to the great places in West Michigan.  The Star of Saugatuck provides a great way for guests to get out on Lake Michigan and get a brief tour of the Saugatuck harbor and the Kalamazoo River.

Michigan apples make great baked apples

A favorite of our bed and breakfast guests has always been our baked apples.  With Cranes u-pick orchards and many other orchards and farm stands in the surrounding Saugatuck, South Haven and Holland area, it is only natural that we feature the local produce on our breakfast buffet.  Making baked apples is simple:  Just halve each apple, scope the seeds out with a mellon baller and place cut side up in a baking dish.  Then drizzle butter on them and top with a mixture of 1/2 cup sugar, 2 TBSP flour and 1/2 tsp cinnamon.  Drizzle a little more butter on top of them and put about 1/2 cup water in the bottom of the pan.  Bake at 350 for approximately 45 minutes.  A yummy treat that our bed and breakfast guests enjoy and a true Michigan fruit indeed.

West Michigan fun in the sun

Today in West Michigan is one of those that you just want to wrap up and keep around for a good long time….sunshine, few clouds, pleasant temperature and gentle breezes.  It’s sometimes difficult to return to the bed and breakfast after being out running our errands on a day like today.  Our bed and breakfast guests are probably in Saugatuck and on Lake Michigan right now enjoying the beautiful day.  After recent heavy rains and storms, it makes a day like today even that much more appreciated.  Who knows, maybe I will just be able to sneak away later for a bike ride around nearby Hutchins Lake and the winery…

Bed and breakfast website improvements

We at the Kingsley House bed and breakfast are continually striving to improve upon what we do for our Michigan guests.  One way of doing this is to work on improvements to our Inn’s website.  Guests now looking for a romantic getaway or our Saugatuck lodging specials will find it easier to navigate through the website.  We have re-worked the navigation from these two pages to our online availability and reservations online bookings.  These improvements may appear minor to most, but changing the structure of the pop up windows to make them more user-friendly for our bed and breakfast guests mean less frustration on getting from one section of the website to another.    Just another way we are working to make our guest experience with us even better than ever.

Saugatuck Douglas Visitors Bureau Member

Once in awhile, I like to update folks following our blog on our memberships.  One of these is the Saugatuck Douglas Convention and Visitors Bureau.  Although technically located in Douglas Michigan, the CVB promotes Saugatuck, Douglas and the surrounding beach towns and lakefront community.  One of the most active Michigan visitors bureaus, it is responsible for the promotion of the area within the state of Michigan, throughout the Midwest and beyond.    As a member bed and breakfast, we are featured in their lodging section under the bed and breakfast/Inns category.

Michigan guests review bed and breakfast

The following review was recently posted to Tripadvisor by a couple from Southern Michigan who recently stayed with us at the bed and breakfast:  We were looking to get away for a few days in Michigan. We have been going to Saugatuck & Holland for several years however we usually go in the spring or fall. This time we had available time in June however the Film Festival was on in Saugatuck so it was booked out. I found the Kingsley online and it looked interesting. The Kingsley proved to be a very great choice. The building is interesting, the location is convenient to Holland and Saugatuck and the town of Fennville has a couple decent restaurants in it. We will be back to the Kingsley sometime in the future. Good place for couples. This would also be a good spot to work out of if you are looking for something during the week and are sick of motels.

South Haven Michigan Harborfest weekend

One of South Haven Michigan’s annual festivals was this past weekend….the Harborfest weekend festival.  Since it is just 20 minutes from the bed and breakfast, some of our Inn guests attended the festivities and were excited to hear the great live music that is a big part of the Lake Michigan festival.  Our bed and breakfast guests that went to South Haven also enjoyed the restaurants and shops of the waterfront community this weekend.
