Summer getaway packages and specials

The Kingsley House bed and breakfast offers many specials and getaway packages in all seasons, but the summer time ones are definitely worth looking into this time of year.  Many of our Inn guests take advantage of our Saugatuck Lodging Special with discounts of up to 25%, but we also have packages that include hot air balloon rides, Michigan Maritime Museums Tall Ships Sail boat, picnics on the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan and boat cruises on the Lake aboard the Star of Saugatuck boat line.

Pleasant forecast for West Michigan

After many days of humid and unseasonably warm summer days, the upcoming forecast for Saugatuck’s Venitian weekend and the Michigan lakefront activities looks very pleasant indeed.  Walking back to the Bed and Breakfast with a good friend here tonight, I realized that the humidity had dropped, the sky cleared (star gazing would be great this evening) and the temperatures have dropped as well.  The pleasant yet warm days of West Michigan summer time have returned!

Michigan Bed and Breakfast gift cards make a great wedding gift

One trend we have been noticing in recent years is the purchase of Kingsley House bed and breakfast gift cards for wedding and anniversary gifts.  During the summer season when many couples are getting married and thinking about their honeymoon plans or one-year anniversary getaway gifts, a Saugatuck bed and breakfast gift card is ideal.  Our gift cards can be bought in any amount, are redeemable for up to 5 years and are even transferrable.

Saugatuck Farmer’s market small but bountiful

There are many farmers markets in this part of West Michigan during the summer and early fall seasons, of which the closest to the bed and breakfast is the Saugatuck Farmers market which is located in the parking lot of the Saugatuck Center for the Arts parking lot.  A short distance from the Inn, one can find a bountiful harvest of fresh Michigan farmers produce at the market.  It is held on Mondays and Fridays this time of year, which goes down to Fridays only after August.

Beautiful summer weather in West Michigan

We were able to getaway from the bed and breakfast today for a bit as the summer weather is perfect today.  Lower 80’s, low humidity and light breezes.  Our current bed and breakfast guests seem to all agree that this is ideal weather for Saugatuck and West Michigan getaways as we didn’t see much of them today until just now as they are lounging on the wrap-around porch of the Inn relaxing for a bit before they all head out for dinner this evening.  We may just have to follow their lead and get out to dine at a restaurant on the Michigan lakefront this evening.

Anniversary getaway couple reviews our bed and breakfast

The following is a recent review posted on tripadvisor by one of our bed and breafkast guests:  We spent our 31st anniversary there. It was a wonderful, charming experience. We stayed in the Northern Spy room, very cozy, great view, and very well decorated. The little homemade snacks around the house and homemade lemonade is a great touch. The breakfast was scrumptious, and we enjoyed having it on the relaxing porch with soothing music. We especially enjoyed the porch swing.

Southwest Michigan extreme weather conditions

One thing for certain about living in the Midwest and Southwest Michigan is that you can always count on seeing some violent thunderstorm and tornado weather conditions at some point in the summer months.  Saugatuck, Fennville, Holland and South Haven all received extreme weather conditions last evening before it headed east from Lake Michigan to Kalamazoo and beyond.   Our bed and breakfast guests of last night witnessed just that as “the eye of the storm” passed over the Inn last evening.  As one of them wrote in their room diary “….thanks for providing shelter from the storm (literally)…”

Michigan tree and shrub varieties

It seems as though we are never really done landscaping and working on improving the gardens of our bed and breakfast.  Yesterday we decided that a certain hidden area on the side of the Inn needs a few things to brighten the spot.  So once again we were off to find just the right Michigan zoned tree or shrub that would work in this spot.  Deciding on one species (such as viburnums) is just the beginning of the search.  There are so many varieties of a species such as viburnums that can be grown sucessfully in the state of Michigan that it is almost overwhelming.  Today’s goal is to narrow the choice down and actually purchase just the right one, which will likely be one with dark foliage that produces berries and fall/winter interest as well.

Saugatuck Center for the Arts hosts Dixie’s Tupperware Party

Mason Street Warehouse opened the second in their series of shows this week at the Saugatuck Center for the arts.  We were able to take a brief break from the bed and breakfast to attend Dixie’s Tupperware Party (yes, it’s a show).  In downtown Saugatuck, the show is an actual tupperware party sales theme by none other than the female impersonator Dixie Longate.  It is a real hoot and definitely can make anyone laugh and smile about life.  And who knows, you might even pick up a new tupperware item or two.

Bed and breakfast history was Michigan orchards/vineyards

Many of our bed and breakfast guests ask about the history of our Michigan Inn.  What is now a 22-year old bed and breakfast was actually a Victorian farmhouse with surrounding orchards and vineyards.  Our collage of historic Kingsley House photos in the Hallway of the bed and breakfast features one of the photos of the surrounding Michigan farm country that has brought forth much apples and grapes over the years.  To this day, our neighbors Fenn Valley winery and Crane’s apple orchards still both continue this heritage today.
