Saugatuck late summer weekend getaways

Our bed and breakfast guests who checked into the Inn today for the weekend reminded us how great a late summer getaway trip can be for a couple.  Most of them expressed that they would much rather travel during this time of year between the busy summer and fall seasons to the Saugatuck area of Michigan.   There really isn’t the same crowded and hurried tourists in the area this time of year, the restaurants are easier to get into for a romantic dinner for two and the weather sure is much more comfortable as well.

Fall decorations come out for another season

It’s hard to believe it’s that time of year to bring the fall decorations back out once again.  Today’s West Michigan weather of sunny-yet-a-chill-in-the-air has prompted us to bring out our fall scarecrows and pumpkins to decorate the parlor of the bed and breakfast.  Although we have yet to decorate the outside with scarecrows, pumpkins and corn stalks, the beginning of decorating for the autumn season has begun today.  Even the scented candle in the parlor was changed today, the new scent that of “Juicy Apple” which makes you think of u-pick apple orchards and fresh baked apple pies.

Michigan labor day traditions

While many have their own way of celebrating the labor day holiday with getaways, barbecues or just plain relaxing, our Michigan governor has an annual tradition of walking across the great Mackniac bridge that connects the lower and upper pennisulas of Michigan.  It is an annual event that many participate in each labor day holiday and a great way to draw attention to our great state’s two bodies of land connected by this great master bridge.  If you haven’t seen or been to it yet, what are you waiting for?

Breakfast at the B&B Inn a bit on the cool side today

As our bed and breakfast guests know, we set the tables on the large wrap-around porch of the Inn for breakfast for as long of the season as we possibly can.  Yesterday and today were a bit of a stretch though as mother nature decided to play a joke on the Saugatuck Michigan area for labor day this year and bring us super cool temperatures in the morning hours of the day.  Our bed and breakfast guests certainly don’t seem to mind it though as they thoroughly enjoy have breakfast on the massive porch and enjoying the beginning of their day in West Michigan this way.

Spa basket a romantic touch to add on to your stay

One of the many options we have available for our couples here on a romantic getaway retreat is the Spa basket, which can be added to any stay at our bed and breakfast.  The spa basket includes a romantic CD, bottle of Fenn Valley winery wine or sparkling juice (with our compliments) , assorted gourmet chocolates, massage lotion, scented soy candle and heart shape rose soap.  It really has become quite popular and is a great way to add a romantic touch to your couples getaway.  Just be sure to ask for it in your online reservation or when we take you reservation over the phone.

West Michigan Fall getaway? Or Labor day?

Our bed and breakfast guests of this labor day weekend must all be wondering if they mistakeningly booked the wrong month.  The weather turned here from what looked like a nice pleasant forecast for the holiday weekend to a rather cool and blustery weekend.  It truly feels more like the first October fall weekend here than labor day weekend.  It will still be a pleasant labor day weekend, just cooler than what we have experienced so far this summer season.  It definitely does put one in the mood for apple picking and the challenging corn maze at nearby Cranes apple orchards.

Saugatuck’s Marro’s restaurant

This evening a group of us dined at Marro’s Italian restaurant in downtown Saugatuck.  Although it is only open during the late spring to early fall time of the year, it definitely draws a large crowd of guests visiting the Saugatuck Michigan area as well as locals who await it’s re-opening each year.  There is almost always a wait for a table in the summertime, so to be able to get in without a wait tonight was a nice change.  I am sure that the upcoming labor day weekend will find it packed to the rafters once again.

Michigan romantic fall getaway destination

With labor day upon us, we begin to turn our efforts towards the fall romantic getaways that we are known well for at the bed and breakfast.  Our location is ideal for a romantic fall Michigan getaway.  We are next to Fenn Valley winery, Crane’s U-pick orchards and corn maze, with local artisans, Lake Michigan and art galleries all nearby.  Many of our romantic getaway couples take advantage of the fact that we are on the route of many West Michigan fall color tour routes.  It truly is an incredibly time of year to be visiting the bed and breakfast.

Saugatuck’s Red Dock coming to send end already

Each year the Red Dock operates from Memorial Day to Labor Day holidays and with the holiday weekend soon approaching, it is difficult to fathom that we are already at that time of year!  We went to lunch yesterday at Saugatuck’s Red Dock eating/drinks establishment once more thinking “well this may just be our last time of sitting on this dock for the 2010 season.”  It is a favorite of both locals and visitors alike and is a great way to unwind and take in the cool Lake/harbor breezes while relaxing with a cool beverage and/or snack.  Awww, another busy and successful summer season for all of us area businesses is coming to a close before entering into the great fall season.

Late summer heat returns to West Michigan

Folks checking into the bed and breakfast today were expecting a cool late summer getaway, but much to there surprise, the heat has returned.  With record temperatures across the nation, the Saugatuck Michigan area is no different.  The good thing is that the forecast for this labor day holiday weekend is looking fantastic with 70s for highs here.  It will be an ideal holiday weekend getaway for our Inn guests looking for a memorable time on the beach, in the stores, in the sand dunes and so much more.
