Horse drawn sleigh rides for bed and breakfast guests??

One of the many reasons that our bed and breakfast guests love to visit us in the winter months is to take advantage of the horse drawn sleigh rides through the snow.  But this particular weekend, mother nature just does not want to cooperate with little snow on the ground.  So Saugatuck, Holland and South Haven are probably where most of our Inn guests will be this coming week and weekend for their getaway holiday vacations.  Oh well, no doubt we will definitely be seeing more snow again for more sleigh rides in the not so distant future I’m sure.

Rain on New Year’s in Saugatuck?

The weather forecasters are predicting rain and maybe even over 50 degrees here this coming New Year’s weekend.  I don’t know that I can ever remember a New Year’s forecast with rain (or at least not freezing rain).  What a very different experience it will be to see the fireworks over the Kalamazoo harbor in Saugatuck this New Year’s eve if it is actually raining that day.  Let’s just hope the fireworks don’t get “rained out” for New Year’s eve!

Michigan New Years eve getaways up next

This time of year, it seems that we all go from one event to the next.  Here in west Michigan, with the Christmas holiday behind us, we are already focusing on helping guests of the bed and breakfast plan their New Year’s getaway weekends.  From romantic holiday couple getaways to a wedding occurring here at the Inn this coming week, we are already moving on to the next big events on the calendar.  The holidays definitely do keep us busy here at the Inn as well.

Christmas time a time for family and friends

Christmas day is finally here and what a special time it is to remember those we love and hold dear.  Truly a time of year to reflect on those who matter most in our lives…our family and close friends.  Here’s wishing everyone a joyous and happy Christmas with those who matter most in your lives…family and dear friends, both near and far.  Merry Christmas to one and all.

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas…

These days around the bed and breakfast, bits of green are popping through the snow.  Here in west Michigan, we have had quite a few days without much snow, and a few days of above freezing highs.  So the Michigan lake front and all of the surrounding Saugatuck area is now starting to see grass popping through in spots.  Unlike my native Iowa relatives, and just west of here in Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa where they are currently experiencing a rather lot of snow for their Christmas eve and Christmas weekend.

Christmas gift certificates include bed and breakfast packages

Many of the gift certificates purchased within the past few days here at our bed and breakfast have been for our popular special theme packages, including Michigan wine lover’s weekend getaways, cooking class packages,  murder mystery packages and of course our romantic getaway packages.  No matter what the reason, these always make great gifts, but this time of year folks really love these surprise gift certificates on Christmas day.

Dark morning at the B&B on Winter solstice

A Michigan winter morning can be dark as it is, but given that this is winter solstice and the shortest day of the year, it is dark at the bed and breakfast this morning.  One good thing about the winter solstice is that the days get longer from now until the summer solstice.  That’s the upbeat way of looking at it anyway, but in the meantime our days here in west Michigan are not very long for daylight.  It would be great days to sleep in a cozy up with someone special.  🙂

Christmas Carolers in a Grand Rapids mall

Hearing Christmas carolers in a crowded mall just days before the Christmas holiday seems like the appropriate way to get into the Christmas spirit and into a holiday mood.  There’s something about hearing carolers today in a Grand Rapids Michigan mall today that definitely makes me feel like more in the Christmas mood than ever.  Knowing that the holiday is now just days away, it seems even more fitting while out amdist the Christmas shoppers today.

Michigan skies will display lunar eclipse tonight

While getting ready for the day here at the bed and breakfast, I just heard on the  news this morning about the lunar eclipse that is set to occur at approximately 3:30 a.m. tomorrow morning here in the Michigan skies.  It always seems as though we hear of eclipses almost every year, but this particular eclipse is occuring the first time in over 500 years.  Still, somehow I just don’t think I will be setting my alarm to get up at 3:15 a.m. as my sleep does take priorities when running a bed and breakfast Inn.

Saugatuck Michigan weather perfect for shopping

Today as we headed out from the bed and breakfast and around Saugatuck, I realized that this is actually very pleasant weather for this time of year and ideal weather for people to get out and get their last week of Christmas shopping done before the begin holiday weekends coming up soon.  With little snow and rather mild temps and weather, we really can’t complain about our winter weather in West Michigan so far this year.
