Bed and breakfast guests “snowed in” today

Like most of the southwest, midwest and northeast, we have been impacted here at the bed and breakfast by the major winter storm/blizzard that raced across the country yesterday and today.  Saugatuck Michigan area was not at all spared during this storm as we have had to dig ourselves out of 16+ inches of snow that with the winds had created drifts up to 5 foot deep.  It’s hard to believe that the ground hog on “his day” predicted that spring is around the corner.  One can only hope!

Saugatuck Michigan area forecasted to receive up to 2 feet? of snow??

The Saugatuck Michigan area is currently under a major major winter storm warning for the coming couple of days.  Somehow knowing that over one-third of the country is going to be impacted by this major storm of the century doesn’t necessarily make the prospect of receiving two feet of snow all that less scary.  It really isn’t something we look forward to although we are sure that to the number of school kids out there waiting for the news of school being closed, it is something of great news.

Saugatuck restaurant Hercules new and improved

This past Saturday night we ventured from the bed and breakfast to meet a group of good friends in downtown Saugatuck at Hercules restaurant.  The eatery is on the road into Saugatuck and has been in operation for some time now but over the course of the past year has had a facelift both in the interior decor and facelift as well as the menu.  While their sandwhich and lunch menu is still in place, they have taken great strides in developing their evening dinner menu into a heartier menu verging on fine dining.  Of course, the very pleasant and friendly owners and staff help to make the experience even better as well.

Bed and breakfast guests enjoy pumpkin cobbler all fall and winter long

It always seems appropriate to make our special pumpkin offerings for breakfast to our Inn guests from mid September through late November.  But this year we have been continuing some of these yummy items throughout the winter season as well and they are definitely a hit.  For whatever reason, pumpkin cobbler, pumpkin cranberry loaves and pumpkin pie pancakes are all breakfast treats that we all seem to relate to the cool or cold weather and are certainly a comfort food.  Our bed and breakfast guests of this morning are a perfect example as they loved having the pumpkin cobbler for breakfast this morning.

In Holland Michigan today researching cell phone technology

So today we ventured out from the bed and breakfast to nearby Holland Michigan to explore our options for cell phone upgrades.  It truly is amazing how far technology is come over the recent years.  4G, mobile links, WiFi coverage, voice recognition texting, device linking, video conferencing via cell phones and on and on and on.  It’s amazing to think of where our world would be these days without all of these technological tools.

Later sunsets over Lake Michigan mean longer days

It occurred to me today as I was driving my car around 6:00 p.m. that the days are starting to get longer and the gorgeous romantic sunsets over Lake Michigan are getting later now.  Even in the midst of winter, it is always nice to realize that our days are starting to get longer and that of course means that spring and summer aren’t all that far away.  YEAH!

B&B Financials wrap up

Well, it’s that time of year once again….my tax accountant is waiting for me to get all of my tax information into his Holland Michigan office.  In operating a bed and breakfast all year, I always tell myself that I will somehow make time THIS year to keep all of my financial data up to date so that I am not going through endless office hours every January to get everything caught up.  Well, it’s been 8 years now of operating the Inn, and I’m STILL doing the same thing.  Oh well, at least it’s getting earlier each year, so that’s a good thing, right???

Inn guests send high praises

Some of our bed and breakfast guests who were here this past weekend for a Michigan winter couples getaway, winter sports weekend and our murder mystery dinner just sent some great compliments our way today vial email.  It was a nice pleasant surprise to hear such high praise and is always very nice to hear that we are appreciated as a romantic getaway retreat for couples.

Michigan neighboring states in NFL playoff weekend

It’s always great to hear of other Midwest states being featured throughout the nation and this weekend’s NFL playoffs weekend is just one of those times.  Today’s teams from Illinois and Wisconsin are of course the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers.    It seems that the entire midwest is split between which of these two teams to cheer for as the super bowl contenders this year.  Just this morning our bed and breakfast guests from Michigan, Illinois, Iowa and Indiana were debating which of the two teams will win today’s playoff game.
