Bed and breakfast guests WiFi users

Today I noticed that a lot of our bed and breakfast guests were using (and still using now) the free WiFi that is available throughout the Inn.  It truly is amazing when you stop to think about just how spoiled we have all become in relying so heavily on the internet and the always-accessible WiFi capabilities of it wherever we go.  These days even fast food establishments and restaurants of all cuisines have added WiFi internet capabilities to the list of extra perks they offer their clientele.

Small town Michigan tragedy reminds us of the important things in life

Today is a somber day in our Michigan town as a local high school basketball player tragically collapsed and died last evening after making the winning game shot here.   Not exactly an upbeat topic for a bed and breakfast blog.  But it does remind of us the importance of taking time for friends and family and the small things (and big things) in life that make us happy as we never know when our time is up.  We do feel for the local family here who is going through this terrible time, but also know that it makes us appreciate our own family and friends all that much more.

Bed and breakfast gift certificate options just added

Over the years, we have had quite a few specific requests for gift certificates and gift cards featuring our romantic getaway packages and our theme packages including the murder mystery weekends, wine lover’s weekends and cooking class packages.    So it occurred to me that we should just provide this as options in our gift certificates section of our website.  Today I added a couple of these options so that our bed and breakfast guests can purchase these options online.  While we offer many bed and breakfast gift certificate and gift card options, having these online means that it will be easier than ever for purchasers to order these online from our website if they wish.  Of course, we will always take these orders over the phone at any time as well.

Sun shining down on West Michigan

There really is something to everyone’s mood when the sun is shining….no matter what the temperatures might be!  So even though the temperatures at the bed and breakfast are still saying “winter” the sunshine an clear blue skies are at least saying “spring”.  It really does seem that everyone is in a much better mood when the sun is shining no matter what time of year it is.  Now that it is March, we all know that our winter season of 2010 to 2011 is now 95% behind us, so we are all even in a much better mood knowing what lies ahead.

Bed and Breakfast guests always enjoy Michigan blueberry muffins

Every summer season we try to harvest and capture some of the Michigan flavorful fruits so well known for the Saugatuck and South Haven areas of Southwest Michigan.  Blueberry season generally runs from July 4th to labor day and we always like to freeze quite a large quantity of them for use in the winter months.  There is something about plump Michigan blueberries that seem to brighten any breakfast for our guests.  This morning’s breakfast was a good example as we made our homemade blueberry muffins with some of the blueberries that we put away last summer.  Always a yummy treat!

Bed and Breakfast is a close getaway trip for Grand Rapids MI

We have recently seen quite a bit of bed and breakfast guests from the local communities of Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo and Lansing.  A lot of couples looking for a romantic overnight getaway have been taking advantage of the fact that our bed and breakfast is so closeby, a mere 45 minutes to Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo and roughly 1 1/2 hours from Lansing.  All within a short car trip away, it has been great to see that couples are trying to take more time for themselves in the crazy hectic lives we all lead on a day to day basis.

Snow go away so the spring bulbs can peek through!

Even though this weekend had a fair number of our bed and breakfast guests still enjoying the winter snow and winter activities, signs of warming temperatures and sun-filled days like today have me itching for spring.  The snow is melting once again and the forecasted rain overnight will likely help in speeding this process up as well.  Just hoping to see the bulbs peek out through the ground.  I know it’s too early for them, but still would be nice to realize that spring is that much closer.

Saugatuck area receives more snow

As we close out the month of February and head into March, the Saugatuck area is still getting snow intermingled with rain showers.  But for the bed and breakfast guests staying with us today and here on weekend getaways, they don’t seem to mind it at all.  Some of the guests are still taking advantage of it by cross country skiing, going on horse-drawn sleigh rides through the forest and walking along the semi-frozen Lake Michigan shoreline.

Bed and breakfast murder mystery weekend

We’re always excited when our murder mystery weekends occur on select weekends and this weekend’s bed and breakfast couples will certainly be in for a great weekend getaway.  Most of our guests checking in today will be participating in the murder mystery dinner package tomorrow evening here at the Inn.  This particular murder mystery is a gangster era theme when speakeasy establishments were prevalent throughout the  country.  It’s always a fun one and we are sure this weekend will be great as well.

Antique gallery strolling for bed and breakfast

Every so often we take time to stroll through West Michigan area antique galleries to see what treasures we can find for the bed and breakfast suites and common areas of the Inn.  The Saugatuck Blue Star Antique Pavillion is always one of the West Michigan antiquing stops that we make when out on these trips.  Yesterday we also strolled through some of the Holland Michigan area second hand stores as often times some of these “undiscovered” treasures are lost amid the unwanted and slightly used furniture pieces.  We actually found one antique piece yesterday and may even go back for a couple more, if we can find a place for these extra pieces in our bed and breakfast.
