Stubborn Saugatuck Spring season

One would think that mother nature is playing tricks on Saugatuck, Michigan and much of the midwest these days.  Just as we start to see a warm up and pleasant days ahead, we receive another punch of colder air and strong gusty winds combined with precipitation.  It really does seem as though our spring season this year is somehow being stubborn and taking it’s time coming around this year.  I guess after Saugatuck’s lengthy spring, summer and fall season of last year, we may just all be spoiled.

Romantic getaway at the B&B for local folks as well

Today’s check ins at the bed and breakfast were couples on romantic getaways, which isn’t anything all that unusual as romantic getaways are what our Inn specializes in for our guests.  But today’s guests are once again from a short distance away from the bed and breakfast.  It is always great to see that couples realize they do not have to travel a great distance in order to getaway for a romantic time away.  Especially given the rising (again) fuel costs, it sure does make a lot more sense to take advantage of local options instead of travelling a long way to getaway.

Easter decorations at the bed and breakfast

It seems as though we are behind in getting the Easter decorations out at the bed and breakfast this year, but not really when you think of how late Easter week is this year.  Around Saugatuck and all across West Michigan, it is obvious that the usual Easter decorations have not been out yet.  So today we decided that it is definitely time to break them out and place them around the Inn and yard of the B&B.  Always another true sign of spring for us, it’s good to see them around once again.

Beautiful day to getaway to Michigan for a hike on the Lake

Today was one of those days that you just want to bottle and save for many future days to come.  The bed and breakfast guests were all out most of the day today, so I am assuming I am not alone on this.  We actually went to a small romantic Michigan town north of Grand Rapids by the name of Rockford and toured this great little find today.  They have an incredible river walk that winds around town which was perfect for a nice spring walk on our getaway today.

Bed and breakfast getting a new driveway

Today began a week-long project that is long overdue at the bed and breakfast and one that we will be glad to get behind us.  A new driveway will be poured this week, but first was the process of tearing out the old concrete and hauling it away on a large dump truck in quite a few loads.  Needless to say that the process of ripping out the old concrete is not yet complete, but we definitely have seen progress today and are excited to know that a new driveway with a much smoother surface will be in by the end of this week.

Saugatuck summer season in the air

Today’s first 80+ temperature readings have everyone in the Saugatuck Michigan area thinking summer thoughts.  Our bed and breakfast guests that checked in to the Inn today hit the timing of their getaway just right as they could not have asked for a nicer mid-April weather pattern.  Sunny skies, breezy and (dare I say) almost verging on hot conditions, the Saugatuck area has long been overdo for this nice summer-like weather pattern.

Spring yard work and clean up

While we try to start our spring yard work in the month of March at the bed and breakfast, this past early spring weather wasn’t really cooperating.  Today with warm temperatures and calm breezes in the air, it was a perfect day to get some of the initial spring yard work accomplished as well as some other miscellaneous things such as bringing more of the porch knick knacks out of storage and placing them in their usual spots for the season.   It’s a chore to do these things, but not so much so when you know what beauty and warm weather follows this season of yard work.

Michigan blueberry bread pudding

One of the items on our breakfast buffet this morning at the Inn is our Michigan blueberry bread pudding.  Each year, we freeze numerous pints of blueberries to use year round at the bed and breakfast for our Inn guest’s breakfast items.  This particular dish fills the Inn with fragrant scents of berries and almond and is always a hit with our guests.  It truly is an irresistable smell and many of our bed and breakfast guests have commented that they normally would not select bread pudding as a choice to eat, but this dish is an incredible taste sensation not to be missed.

Michigan Beach town communities

Within a quick drive from the bed and breakfast are a number of romantic beach town lake front communities.  Today we are venturing up to Grand Haven Michigan which is just north of Holland for an errand we need to run.  It is always a fun adventurous mini getaway for us to be able to make a quick drive to visit these fun little beach town communities.  Grand Haven is also home to the coast guard for Lake Michigan, of which their biggest festival of the year is the Coast Guard Festival in mid summer.

Allegan Michigan a slower pace of life

Today I took a short getaway trip to our county’s seat of Allegan Michigan.  Just 20 minutes southeast of the bed and breakfast, this small romantic Michigan town always seems to have a slower pace of life to it.  It is quite evident that residents of this southwest Michigan town walk at a slower pace, drive a bit slower than some of the other larger West Michigan towns and cities and just seem to be more peaceful because of it.  Too bad we can’t all operate at this slower pace of life every day of our lives.
