Bed and breakfast guest more landscape improvements

It seems as though we are constantly doing more and more landscape work around the bed and breakfast property, but it really is something we feel we need to do in order to keep the grounds in top notch shape and beautiful for another Michigan summer season.  Today one of our trees received a pretty drastic pruning, but necessary nonetheless as the grassy area of the lawn beneath it was dying out completely.  So we also had a load of top soil spread around the area so that we can re-seed it and keep the lawn appearance very uniformly green.

Michigan Nursery time of year

Some of our bed and breakfast guests of this past weekend took advantage of their Michigan getaway to also stop at our amazing nurseries in this part of West Michigan.  We have a lot of growers both here on the Lakefront as well as inland so the perrenials, annuals and trees abound in this part of the country.  Sometimes we forget just how lucky we are to live in an area of the Midwest that has such an abundant amount of nursery and landscape possibilities to choose from.

Holland Michigan’s Tulip festival goes out with spring weather

Today being the final day of the Holland tulip festival, many of our bed and breakfast guests are among the many that are in attendance for the annual Spring event.  Today’s weather has not exactly been ideal for the many events in this final day, but then we really can’t complain overall as it has been pretty nice for the most part throughout the week’s events.  It actually seems more appropriate today for the weather to be a bit cooler and rainy–that’s what spring is supposed to feel like….right?

Saugatuck Michigan spring returns

After a week that seemed more like mid-summer, it would appear that we have once again returned to more spring like weather.  After several hot and humid days, it actually is quite nice to return to the more seasonal Saugatuck temperatures once again.  It is just way too soon for the the “dog days of summer” when it the Holland tulip festival hasn’t even concluded yet.

Bed and breakfast guests enjoy our Blueberry bread pudding

This morning one of the treats that was obviously a hit based on what “wasn’t” left of it this morning was our blueberry bread pudding made from nearby farmer’s blueberry crops.  We cheat and flash freeze a lot of the tasty blueberry crop each year and bring them out throughout the year for our bed and breakfast guests.  The blueberry bread pudding is really a fairly easy dish but always a popular one throughout the years we have been running the Inn.

Lake Michigan on a humid day in “May?”

Walking around nearby South Haven today, which is right on beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline, it is very apparent that this is a humid day indeed.  Most of our bed and breakfast guests wouldn’t expect to have such a hot and humid day in early May, but that is exactly what they are experiencing as the temperature and heat humidity index (yes, I did say that) that returned to the forecasters vocabulary once again this year.

Michigan wood mulch being spread today at bed and breakfast

Every year, we look forward to having a fresh load of wood chips being delivered and spread at the bed and breakfast as it always gives the grounds of the bed and breakfast such a nice fresh new look for the summer season ahead.  It takes approximately 25 yards of mulch each year to accomplish this task and it takes a crew of men to do this in one day.  We do use real Michigan wood chips as our mulch and it is always so nice to see it all once it has been accomplished.

Bed and breakfast guests use modern technology

It use to be that you would see our bed and breakfast guests of the younger generation being the only ones using today’s modern technology.  Well I had to do a double take today when some of our elderly guests who were here for the Holland tulip festival were this morning at breakfast updating their facebook photos to reflect some of the Holland tulip time events that they attended so that their children and grandchildren could witness some of the fun and exciting Holland Michigan events the two of them had experienced while staying at the Inn with us.  It truly is amazing to see every generation taking advantage of modern technology these days.

More flowers for the Bed and Breakfast

Today was yet another day in our ongoing process this time of year in purchasing and hauling more flowers (both perrenials and annuals) to the bed and breakfast as we plant the pots and grounds to bring them back to life once again.  This week will be a busy week for sure as we continue to plant the flowers and bring the pots back out of the garage store.  But we certainly don’t mind it in the least as it is always great to see everything come back to life and the colorful gardens return once again.

Michigan nursery hanging baskets for the B&B Inn

Adorning the bed and breakfast with many beautiful flowers each year is one of the things that we love to do for our Inn guests who come to experience a coloful Michigan getaway.  This year, we decided to have the 15 hanging baskets that hang from the wrap around porch made by our good friends at Van Til’s nusery here on Lakeshore drive near Lake Michigan.  I picked them up today and wow are they ever beautiful and quite healthy.  We are so glad we decided to have them make them for us this year as it is so nice to have such healthy beautiful flowers so early in the season.
