Out of state guests at the B&B for Michigan getaway

Today as I was checking in our guests for the next few days, it occurred to me that quite a few of them are from states that are quite a distance from Saugatuck Michigan area.  Virginia, Texas, Florida just to name a few of the states that our guests have traveled from to experience all that Southwest Michigan has to offer in the next few days.  It’s always a treat to host guests at the Inn who have not experience our beautiful romantic area of the country.

Landscape work at the Bed and Breakfast

Among the many other things that we do here at the bed and breakfast, we also continue to work on landscaping projects in order to make the Inn grounds more beautiful on an ongoing basis for our many romantic getaway couples that frequent the Inn each year.  Currently, we are having a landscape company move bushes, shrubs and some of the many perennials in order to make better use of the grounds and to provide more “breathing room” for the plants.  It’s always a mess to do projects like this, but always so much nicer in the end.

Stormy weather won’t dampen Michigan Inn guests

Today’s windy and stormy weather that rolled across much of the Midwest and the lower Southwest Michigan area would be enough to cause lots of people to stay indoors and curl up on the couch.  Not for our bed and breakfast guests!  Many of the Inn couples headed out today in spite of the stormy weather and had a very adventurous day to say the least.  It’s always interesting to hear their stories of their activities as they explored west Michigan and the lake front beach towns, but today seemed extra special as they all toughed out the stormy day here.

U-Pick Orchards in Saugatuck and South Haven

A number of our bed and breakfast guests of this past week have been taking advantage of the many u-pick orchards, farmer’s markets and produce stands that are throughout the Saugatuck and South Haven areas of West Michigan.  One can travel Blue Star Highway and find a number of fun stops whether it be the farm stands where all the work has already been done for you, the u-pick orchards where anyone can have the fun and excitement of picking your own fresh produce, or the farmer’s markets where one can meet the farmers themselves who bring their crops to town each week.

Special sail sand and surf package at the B&B Inn

One of the many fun and exciting packages that we offer our guests of the bed and breakfast is our sun sail sand and surf package.  A romantic getaway couple staying with us these past few days at the Inn is taking advantage of this package as a part of their honeymoom getaway package.  It includes a sail on the Friends Goodwill tall ship in South Haven, a picnic for two which they can take to the beaches of Lake Michigan or in a quiet park gazebo, at a summer concert, etc.  Plus it also includes a dining voucher for two at one of our fantastic area restaurants.

Day Lilies at the B&B Inn

Around this time of year, the day lillies are in full bloom around the bed and breakfast property.  We pride ourselves in our beautiful landscaped perrenial gardens at the bed and breakfast and this year’s blooms are no different as they are in full display once again.  It always seems  as though this time of year comes up quickly when the day lillies begin their colorful display, but it also means that the summer season at the Inn is in full swing.

Dinner at Zing — new restaurant in Saugatuck area

Tonight I was able to sneak away from the bed and breakfast and my Innkeeping duties to have dinner with some dear friends at nearby Saugatuck – Douglas area Zing restaurant.  New to the scene this year, Zing offers great casual but elegant food in a chic and fun atmosphere.   Folks who have been to the area before will recognize it as the “old Blue Moon” restaurant and it is so exciting to witness a new venture in this great location on Blue Star Highway.

Fireworks galore in West Michigan

Just last night as we were driving along the Michigan lake front we realized that there actually were fireworks in every direction….south in South Haven, east in Allegan, north in Holland as well as a few other smaller town’s fireworks here and there.  Saugatuck and some of the other lake front communities will be having their fireworks this evening all in celebration of our Independence Day, a proud day for all of us that we should never forget or take for granted.

Stormy day in Saugatuck Michigan area

It looks like the beginning of the July 4th holiday weekend in the Saugatuck Michigan area is going to be a stormy one.  Hopefully it will go as planned in the weather forecast and that we will soon be seeing clearer days ahead this weekend as all of the Saugatuck, Holland and South Haven July 4th holdiay festivities have been planned months and months in advance.

Red white and blue bunting going up soon

Every patriotic holiday season at the bed and breakfast we drape our patriotic red white and blue bunting around the front of the large wrap around porch.  This week we are once again reminding ourselves that the 4th of July holiday weekend has quickly approached.  It’s always a welcome sign to see the colorful patriotic display here at the Inn for our guests and folks who drive down our roadway.  But it also makes one stop and think about the meaning of this Independence holiday that we celebrate each year.
