Incredible Fall Weekend in West Michigan

Our bed and breakfast guests of this weekend truly were very lucky to have such perfect warm fall weather for their fall leaf peeping trips on their getaway vacations. It was perfect weather for pumpkin patches, picking your own apples at nearby Crane’s apple orchards or a visit to our neighboring Fenn Valley winery for a tour of their vineyards and some sampling in their tasting room. I can’t imagine a more perfect weather setting for a fall getaway in West Michigan.

Grand Rapids ArtPrize and Food Show for the Inn

Today we attended the annual Gordon Food Show in Devos Place located in nearby Grand Rapids Michigan. We always try to point out to our bed and breakfast guests that we really are not at all that far from this large and thriving city with lots to do. At the moment, the highly-aclaimed ArtPrize is still happening for this year. We were able to take some time away from the food show to also take in about half of the “Top 10” exhibits as well as many others. The food show itself was quite nice, but being able to also take in some of Grand Rapid’s ArtPrize was an added bonus.

Nearby Holland Michigan continues to grow

One of our favorite quick and close trips from the bed and breakfast is Holland, Michigan. Just a quick 15 minutes from the Inn, it seems as though this great little Dutch resort town of West Michigan isn’t all that effected by the economic climate of the rest of the country. It continues to show signs of development and business growth and expansion of businesses. On top of that, there is also a great variety of fun tourist activities and fun shopping especially in downtown Holland.

Bed and Breakfast guests enjoy sunny skies

It is so incredibly nice to see the sun shining brightly once again after what seems like a very long stretch of dreary weather here in West Michigan. Actually, the forecast is a very nice one indeed for the coming week with sunny skies and warmer temperatures that our Inn guests for this coming week will surely enjoy as they venture out for apple picking, shopping, hiking along the beaches and anything else they want to partake in around the area.

Windy conditions hopefully won’t blow away leaves

The wind storms of the past 24 hours here in West Michigan have been quite extreme and surely are not a good thing for the fall color season, but hopefully it is early enough in the season that it will not have much impact. Still, it sure does seem that a lot of leaves and branches have been blowing around throughout the area. Bits of sunshine are beginning to pop through now so hopefully the forecast for warm and sunny weather for the coming week is accurate so that we might all be able to get out to enjoy our early fall season.

Cornstalks, scarecrows and pumpkins a sign of the time

Both Saugatuck and South Haven have recently gotten in to the fall mood of the year now as both towns have recently decorated lamp posts and anything that doesn’t move with fall decorations of cornstalks, pumpkins, scarecrows, etc. It’s always a welcome sign as it means that the beautiful West Michigan fall season is upon us. As you drive down Blue Star Highway or along Lake Michigan’s shoreline, you can see sprinkling of fall colors in the trees as well. A good sign that our “leaf peeper” bed and breakfast guests will be here soon too!!

Pumpkin cobbler, apple dumplings and more

With fall now officially beginning tomorrow, we at the bed and breakfast have brought back out our favorite pumpkin and apple recipes and have been once again been receiving great praise from our Inn guests for the pumpkin cobbler, the apple dumplings, baked apples and of course the hot apple cider in the afternoons.  It is also very fun to get back to having the scents of fall in the air as well with the hot cider simmering in the afternoons and the pumpkin baking in the mornings.

A great time to visit West Michigan

I have always preferred to visit popular resort towns in the slower season as it is always so much easier to get around and so much more relaxing.  Saugatuck, South Haven and Holland have all been less crowded and more laid back these days making for a perfect time to visit them.  After all, isn’t relaxation part of why we all getaway on trips?

Southwest Michigan hot and cold

One of the things that is always noticeable at the bed and breakfast Inn this time of year, is the swings in temperatures that can mean running the furnace in the evening hours into morning and back to running the air conditioner again later in the day as the warm temperatures return by noon and into the afternoon.  It seems silly in a way to be running both furnace and air conditioner this time of year, but we do our best to make our bed and breakfast guests comfortable throughout their stay with us at the Inn.

South Haven farmers market

Today I went shopping at the South Haven farmers market just south of the bed and breakfast along this great Michigan lakefront town.  There are a number of local farmer’s markets and the crop of fresh Michigan produce is just as abundant as ever.  You really need a shopping cart to get everything you would like to purchase at these markets and the freshness of the produce is top rate.  There is nothing quite like the fresh vegetables, fruit, etc. that you can purchase at these markets.
